FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Below you will find answers to our most frequently asked questions, information about what to expect when you’re playing escape rooms and also our terms of reservation.

What is an escape room?

An escape room is an immersive game set in a physical space, where a team of 2–6 players has 60 minutes to solve puzzles, uncover clues, and unravel the mystery behind the room’s story. It’s all about teamwork, problem-solving skills, and effective communication.

Escape rooms are a perfect way to step away from the everyday grind. Once the clock starts ticking, your mind will be completely focused on the tasks at hand, leaving no room for outside worries. The sense of accomplishment when you crack a tricky puzzle is pure joy—and fair warning, it’s incredibly addictive. Try it once, and you’ll be hooked on the thrill!

What is a challenge game?

In the challenge game, your team splits into two groups and goes head-to-head in identical escape rooms—competing not just against the clock but against each other. Perfect for groups of 6–12 players, this game is all about fun and friendly rivalry.

Will the ladies outsmart the guys? Who’s the quickest thinker in your crew? Or will the younger generation show the grown-ups how problem-solving is done?

The challenge game is available at our Åkerlundinkatu location in the Idman’s Hideaway and Manserock escape rooms. It’s the ultimate test of brains, teamwork, and bragging rights!

How many rooms does Getaway Tampere have?

At our Åkerlundinkatu location, you’ll find six escape rooms across four different themes. We have two Manserock and two Idman’s Hideaway rooms, as well as one Näsinneula and one Speakeasy room.

Our Satamakatu location features a single, immersive 90-minute escape room, The Star of the Theatre.

At Vellamonkatu, you’ll discover three unique escape rooms: Finlayson’s Electric Light, Smugglers, and The Match Factory.

Dive into the stories behind the rooms and learn more here.

What’s the ideal group size for a game?

In our escape rooms, teams can range from 2 to 6 players, but we recommend a group size of 3–4 for the best experience—this way, everyone gets to fully enjoy the game.

At our Åkerlundinkatu escape center, up to six teams can play at the same time, meaning a total of 36 players can escape simultaneously. Larger groups are no problem either—we can split your games into two rounds to accommodate everyone!

Our Satamakatu location features the Star of the Theatre room, which fits a maximum of 6 players per game.

At Vellamonkatu, the three escape rooms can host a total of 17 players: Finlayson’s Electric Light fits up to 6, The Smugglers up to 5, and The Match Factory up to 6 players.

How much time should we reserve for our visit?

At our Åkerlundinkatu and Vellamonkatu locations, your team will have 60 minutes to solve all the puzzles and uncover the room’s story. However, we recommend allowing about 1.5 hours for the entire visit. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes before your game starts so we can go over the rules and instructions with you. After the game, feel free to snap a few photos to remember the experience and ask us any lingering questions.

At our Satamakatu location, the game lasts 90 minutes, so we recommend allowing around 2 hours for your visit.

Which escape rooms are best suited for playing with kids?
The best escape rooms for playing with kids are Idman’s Hideaway, Näsinneula, The Smugglers, and The Star of the Theatre.

If it’s the first time kids are playing with adults, Idman’s Hideaway is the perfect choice. The exciting environment, locks, and clue-hunting make it a fantastic first experience for the whole family.

For those with a bit more escape room experience, we recommend Näsinneula and The Smugglers. If you’ve already played a few times with kids, The Star of the Theatre is an excellent option. It’s an immersive, lock-free game with lots to explore, making it a great choice for more experienced players.

Is there an age limit for the rooms?

Players under 15 years old can play all of our rooms when accompanied by an adult.

However, Manserock has a recommended minimum age of 15, as it includes some crude humor and props that may appeal more to an adult audience. Younger players can still join, but it’s up to the parents’ discretion whether the content is suitable for them.

Are the facilities accessible?

Unfortunately, none of our locations are fully accessible. To enter the indoor areas at each site, there are 5-15 steep steps to climb.

Some of our games involve crawling, crouching, dimly lit spaces, high thresholds, light and sound effects, and unexpected events. If you have specific questions regarding accessibility or our games, please reach out to us via email at info@getaway.fi, and we’ll be happy to provide more details and recommend the most suitable option for you.

How will we pay for the game?

Payment is made upon arrival to play.

We accept Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard, as well as Edenred, Smartum, and ePassi.

Please note that we do not accept cash.

For businesses, it’s possible to pay via invoice, provided this is arranged in advance with us. A 6 € invoicing fee will be added to the invoice.

Is billing possible for companies?

Yes, invoicing is possible for businesses if arranged in advance. The invoice can be sent as an e-invoice or as a PDF via email.

For invoicing, we’ll need the company’s official name, business ID, billing address, and any reference number if applicable.

The invoice will be based on the actual number of players, and a 6€ invoicing fee will be added.

Can I use a Getaway Tampere gift card in Getaway Hämeenlinna?

All of our gift cards can be used both in Tampere and Hämeenlinna. So, if you’ve received a Getaway Tampere gift card but would like to play in Hämeenlinna instead, that’s absolutely fine.

You can purchase gift cards here.

Can I bring alcohol to the game?

Room escape game is often a part of friends get-togethers and so is a couple of beers. We don’t have zero tolerance with alcohol but the game is much more harder when you are a little bit tipsy. If people are too wasted we don’t let them into the game rooms for the sake of the safety of our rooms and players. It’s also prohibited to take any drinks with you in the room.

Do we need to prepare for the game in any way?

No preparation is needed for the game. You don’t need any prior knowledge about the theme of the game, as all puzzles can be solved with the materials and clues available in the room.

There are no athletic aspects to the games, so you can dress however you like. Whether you come in casual clothes, fancy attire, or anything in between – it’s all good.

If you wear reading glasses or if your toes tend to get cold, feel free to bring your glasses or wool socks! We kindly ask that you leave your outdoor shoes in the entrance at all of our locations, so games are played in socks.

Are there discounts for children?

Children aged 7-12 years old receive a discount of €5 per child when accompanied by an adult. Children under 7 play for free when accompanied by an adult.

Which games can be played by two people?

All of our games can be played by a team of two, and it has been proven that players can successfully escape even the most challenging rooms with just two people.

When choosing a game, please consider your level of experience and the difficulty of the room. Playing with just two people means there will be more to do, and in more challenging rooms, you’ll need to solve puzzles quickly to finish within the hour. If you don’t have a lot of experience, we recommend starting with some of our easier rooms, such as Manserock or The Smuggler’s.

Can we play in English?

All of our games can be played in both Finnish and English. Please let us know when making your reservation if you’d like to play in English. We’ll prepare the room with English-language materials, and our game master will guide and instruct the game in English.

How to play

Arrive 15 minutes before the game starts – bigger groups can arrive 20 minutes before the game time. Before the game we’ll go through the rules and instructions with you. Please arrive on time and with your whole team – if you are late we unfortunately have to take the time from your game time so next groups can get to their games on time.

You will enter the room without shoes. All personal belongings will be held outside the game room. We have locked space for your stuff. Rooms provide everything you might need to escape and the game doesn’t require general knowledge.

In the room you will have 60-90 minutes (depending on the room you’re playing) to escape. Game doesn’t require physical strength or agility but cleverness and group skills will be tested. You will have your game director monitoring you through cameras during the game and giving you clues to proceed if needed.

After the game your game director will answer any question in mind and take a few pictures of your group as a souvenir and for social media if wanted. We also would gladly hear feedback about the experience.
