Our Story

Getaway

Getaway Room Escape is a company founded by two friends passionate about entrepreneurship and escape games. Since 2016, we’ve been creating high-quality, engaging, and addictive escape room experiences, hosting thousands upon thousands of games for groups of friends, families, couples, and corporate clients alike.

Over the years, our selection has grown, and we now offer escape games in three different locations in Tampere. Since 2019, Getaway Room Escape has also had a presence in Hämeenlinna.

In Tampere, Getaway features ten escape rooms with eight unique themes, along with an outdoor adventure game Lost Love. In Hämeenlinna, we offer five escape rooms with four different themes. Additionally, at our locations and online store, you can find the best and most entertaining escape board games, gift cards for our escape rooms, and our very own escape room book, Pakoretki mestauslavalta (Escape Journey from the Executioner’s Stage).

Our Team

Behind Getaway’s rooms is a close-knit team of four: Ossi Ojala, Jouni Tomberg, Arlene Ojala, and Akseli Tomberg.

Ossi is the founder of our company, and with nearly a decade of experience in the escape game business, he has extensive expertise in puzzle and game design as well as room construction. Ossi is our team’s “Pelle Peloton,” constantly coming up with new ideas. He sees puzzles everywhere (in a positive way) and loves creating unique game experiences.

Jouni has a PhD in electrical engineering. He excels in both electronics design and the practical implementation of electronic and mechanical puzzles. In his free time, Jouni is an active member of Mensa and writes short stories. His writings have garnered attention in writing competitions, and he has even placed in prestigious contests with his short stories.

Arlene is our team’s visual artist and marketing and sales support. She has skills and ideas for communication, storytelling, the visual design of our rooms and locations, as well as managing large projects. Arlene is practical and efficient, ensuring that everything runs smoothly while keeping the big picture in mind and maintaining attention to detail.

Akseli is the latest addition to our construction team. Akseli is a versatile handyman, responsible for the coding and Arduino programming of our games, as well as assisting with building, painting, brainstorming, and game hosting tasks.

Our Mission

We aim to provide our customers with a unique experience that begins as soon as they walk through our front door. In our escape rooms, we’ve invested in the storyline, atmosphere, and puzzles. All our rooms are inspired by local stories, themes, or history. We carefully design the puzzles to be diverse, logical, and in line with the room’s theme, and we thoroughly test the games before release. Each room and every puzzle is developed and built by our own puzzle masters.

We believe that a successful escape game experience is based not only on fantastic rooms but also on top-notch customer service. That’s why each of our games has its own game master who ensures the comfort of your group. The game master goes through the game instructions with you before the game, answers any questions that arise, focuses on your game, explains any lingering questions after the game, and takes a photo of you if you wish, as a memento.
